Mayor Yemi Mobolade announced today the selection of Alex Kovacs as the new Director of Aviation for the Colorado Springs Airport (COS). Kovacs’ selection is pending City Council confirmation.

Kovacs has served as the Acting Director of Aviation at COS since February 2025. In his prior role as Assistant Director of Aviation, he led the Finance, Properties, and Design and Construction Teams.

“I am confident that Alex brings the experience and expertise needed to take us to the next level of the COS Airport’s legacy,” said Mayor Yemi Mobolade. “With a record number of passengers, a vibrant and modern new concourse, and expanded air service including the first international destination added this year, there are still more great things to come at our growing airport. We look forward to the continued success of COS under Alex’s leadership.”

Prior to joining Colorado Springs Airport, Alex spent 16 years at the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, most recently as the Director of Finance, leading the Accounting, Budget, Finance, and Risk Management areas. He also served as the Treasurer of the Nevada Aviation Association and on the Board of the Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (SWAAAE).

Alex has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership. He is a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and currently pursuing the Accredited Airport Executive designation.

As aviation director for Colorado Springs Airport, Kovacs will lead the Airport team, manage, plan, and direct airport operations, maintenance, construction, economic development, marketing, and long term planning activities; implement policies and procedures; ensure compliance; and develop programs and strategies to maximize the potential of the Colorado Springs Airport to include business development at Peak Innovation Park.
