8th Street Corridor Infrastructure Improvements

The 8^th Street Corridor between Motor Street Dr. and Cimarron St. was developed in the 1960s. The corridor requires multiple infrastructure updates. Work will take place on the west side of the corridor, which currently lacks complete pedestrian access and sufficient stormwater drainage capacity. Additionally, the signalized intersections at Lower Gold Camp Rd. and Moreno Ave. do not meet ADA requirements, and the current bike lane configuration forces bicycles into multiple merges with traffic over the corridor.  

The 12-month project will provide:

• Replacement of the 24” waterline which feeds the corridor and is currently in poor condition
• Updates to existing traffic signals including new poles, cameras, and controls
• ADA upgrades to infrastructure at the intersections with Lower Gold Camp Road and Moreno Avenue
• Improved pedestrian/bike wayfinding on the west side, along with restriping to help protect bike lanes from constant merges with vehicle traffic
• Addition of sidewalk and storm drainage facilities

Anticipated detours

Crews will work on 100-foot sections of the roadway at a time (between Motor Street Dr. and Cimarron St.). Vehicle traffic through each 100-foot section will be limited to one lane in each direction, with additional, potential closures of the center turn lane to accommodate the waterline replacement. Business access will be maintained at all times. Once all work is completed, the stretch will be milled and paved.
