Mt. Cutler Trailhead parking lot construction begins

About the project

In compliance with the 2018 North Cheyenne Cañon Park Master and Management Plan, the city’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department will be working to improve and optimize the Mt. Cutler trailhead parking lot. A contractor has been selected and will begin the improvement project in mid-April. The construction project will expand and formalize the existing gravel lot located on the south side of North Cheyenne Canyon Road, 1.5 miles from the Starsmore Discovery Center gate.

In order to increase parking efficiency and consistency and reduce erosion, the improvements include asphalt paving, curb and gutter, striping and defined parking spaces. Minor improvements will also be made to the Mt. Cutler trail and Creekside Trail.

North Cheyenne Canyon Road is expected to remain open with only a few incidences where travel will be reduced to one lane or potentially a delayed roadway opening. The Mt. Cutler trailhead parking lot will be temporarily closed during construction. This closure is expected to last six weeks, weather dependent. Mt. Cutler Trail will remain open to hikers and all users are encouraged to utilize available parking along North Cheyenne Canyon Road or at Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center.
