The City of Colorado Springs is beginning a program, in conjunction with community partners, to improve the infrastructure along North Nevada Ave. The program will extend from Fillmore Street to the south to Garden of the Gods Road/Austin Bluffs Parkway to the north.
NNCIP will guide the planning, engineering, and phased implementation of six, voter-approved projects as part of the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) ballot initiative.
The six projects will be evaluated within the context of the program area while considering other planned projects such as utility and stormwater improvements. NNCIP will prioritize the release of construction packages for specific project segments based on variables such as available funding, coordinated project schedules, permitting requirements, right-of-way availability, etc.
Over the previous 10 years, the City and its community partners have undertaken several planning projects to encourage redevelopment of the North Nevada Ave corridor. The City Planning Department led the Renew North Nevada Master Plan which concluded in March 2017 with adoption by City Council. In November 2017, City Engineering released the Renew North Nevada Transportation Sub Plan to support the Master Plan framework.
Work in the corridor continued with the North Nevada Ave Concept Design Report released in 2020 and the North Nevada Transit Connectivity Study which was released in 2021. The latest effort was completed by the Urban Land Institute. They conducted a study which concluded in March 2025 with a presentation to the community to share their vision and implementation strategies for the corridor.
