Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services manage 7 Special Improvement Maintenance Districts (SIMDs) in the City of Colorado Springs. The SIMDs are created by ordinance, and each has a citizen advisory board appointed by City Council. The ordinances allow for the assessment of a mill levy on properties in each district for the maintenance of certain improvements on specified medians, rights of way and open space.
SIMD maintenance is conducted by a combination of full time and seasonal Park Maintenance staff and contracted services.
Effective January 1, 2022, the Briargate SIMD has been replaced by a GID which also has an advisory committee.
SIMD property owners interested in being a representative on one of these committees or learning more about the services and functions of the SIMDs, please contact John Gebhart, SIMD Administrator, at John.Gebhart@coloradosprings.gov.
