Project Update
August 2025
The South Nevada Avenue Traffic Signal Improvements Project is currently in a planned holding pattern as we await delivery of key equipment.
Current Status:
- Signal pole foundations and conduit installation at Ramona Avenue and St. Elmo Avenue are complete.
- All pedestrian routes have been restored in a temporary, accessible condition during this holding period.
What’s Next:
We anticipate returning to the site in January 2026 to begin the final phase of work. This will include the installation of signal equipment and final streetscape improvements at both intersections. Barring weather or supply delays, the project is expected to be fully completed by March 2026.
We appreciate the public’s patience as we await the necessary materials to complete these safety and mobility upgrades. Updates will be posted here as new milestones are reached.
Project Purpose & Benefits
The City of Colorado Springs, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), is upgrading two intersections along S. Nevada Avenue (Colorado State Highway 115) at Ramona Avenue and St. Elmo Avenue. The project will replace aging traffic signal infrastructure and provide critical safety upgrades for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. The work also supports the South Nevada Urban Renewal Plan, which focuses on revitalizing this key corridor.
What is Being Improved?
- New traffic signals with updated timing
- ADA-compliant curb ramps and sidewalks
- Improved pedestrian crossings and signage
Why This Matters
These intersections have seen increased traffic and pedestrian activity in recent years. The improvements will:
- Enhance pedestrian safety
- Improve signal efficiency and reduce congestion
- Support revitalization of the S. Nevada corridor
- Provide better access for people with disabilities
- Reduce long-term maintenance needs
