The City of Colorado Springs is inviting residents to take part in shaping updates to the City’s sign regulations. The proposed Sign Ordinance Update will modernize local sign standards within the City Code to reflect current technology, industry practices, and federal requirements while supporting the community’s shared goals for safety, economic vitality and visual character.
The public is encouraged to attend a community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department Hearing Room, 2880 International Circle. City staff will explain the proposed changes, answer questions, and invite public feedback.
The City’s existing sign code was last updated in 2012. Since then, new technologies and materials have transformed how businesses and organizations communicate visually. The proposed Sign Ordinance update will align with content-neutral sign regulations and the City’s strategic priorities of economic vitality and infrastructure to promote a thriving community. It will also improve clarity and consistency across the Unified Development Code (UDC), the City’s comprehensive guide for land use, design, and development standards.
Key goals include reformatting the ordinance to align with development standards, adding criteria for coordinated sign plans on unique properties, refining rules for electronic message centers, and enhancing maintenance and upkeep requirements. Together, these updates will support public safety and the City’s overall appearance.
Residents can learn more and follow the project’s progress on the City’s website at ColoradoSprings.gov/SignOrdinanceUpdate.
