On Tuesday, the Colorado Springs City Council passed a resolution recognizing February as Therapeutic Recreation Month.
This acknowledgment highlights the significant impact of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Therapeutic Recreation Program (TRP) and its commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities in our community.
“The Therapeutic Recreation Program plays a vital role in providing individuals with disabilities the chance to engage in meaningful, inclusive activities that promote not only physical health but emotional and social well-being,” said Britt Haley, Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. “We are proud to celebrate Therapeutic Recreation Month and the positive impact TRP has on the lives of so many residents in Colorado Springs.”
In 2024, TRP welcomed 5,200 participants across more than 130 programs, showcasing the program’s dedication to inclusivity and personal growth. TRP provides opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities to engage in experiences of their choice, while also fostering skills necessary for functioning in community settings. The diverse array of programs offered by TRP include arts, music, culture, sports, fitness, aquatics, outdoor adventures, and more.
