The Colorado Springs Fire Department, along with several community partners, will be hosting several Living with Wildfire Town Halls to empower the community to be prepared for a wildfire.
Residents will learn about the ongoing threat of wildfire, how to prepare their homes for wildfires, how to be notified of an emergency, what to include in their emergency plan, and information on evacuations during an emergency. Residents will also have the opportunity to sign up for the Neighborhood Chipping Program if eligible and sign up for emergency alerts through PeakAlerts.
This year, CSFD will broaden the locations and customize the meetings depending on the wildfire risk in the location where the meeting is held. Three meetings will be held for citizens living in the Wildland Urban Interface, and two will be held for citizens living in the Prairie Urban Interface. Additional meetings may be added depending on attendance.
Representatives from CSFD Wildfire Mitigation, CSFD Operations, El Paso Teller9-1-1 Authority, Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management, Springs Utilities, and the Colorado Springs Police Department will present the information to residents.
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 E. Woodmen Rd.
