On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, CSPD K9 Roam was gravely injured while attempting to take a suspect into custody. After several hours of surgery, including one to amputate his left hind leg, and several days of recovery at the veterinary hospital, K9 Roam will be discharged tomorrow, October 18, 2025!
CSPD extends our sincere gratitude to the veterinarians, surgeons, nurses, and staff at Animal ER Care, whose exceptional skill and compassion saved Roam’s life.
After Roam is released, he and his handler will be escorted from the veterinary hospital by a small contingent of uniformed CSPD personnel in marked police vehicles. Their route will pass by Roam’s assigned CSPD division, the Specialized Enforcement Division, on Fountain Boulevard just east of South Academy Boulevard. This is not an emergency (lights and siren) escort, so no impact to traffic in this area is expected.
Community and media members are invited to line the route along Fountain Boulevard from Academy Park Loop to Powers Boulevard, starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday, to show their support for Roam. Roam and his handler will pass through this area around 11:15 AM.
CSPD reminds everyone who participates not to park on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard, but to find parking elsewhere and stand on the sidewalk. Please see the image below for details on where community members and media may stand.
20 minutes following the procession, CSPD Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford will be available for a brief interview outside of the CSPD Sand Creek Substation.
