Four new City Councilmembers, three At Large and one for District 3, were sworn into office on Tuesday. They were elected by voters in the April 4th General Municipal Election.
Municipal Court Judge, HayDen Kane gave the oath of office to Michelle Talarico, District 3, and At Large Councilmembers David Leinweber, Lynette Crow-Iverson, and Brian Risley.
Following the ceremony City Council held a special meeting in Council Chambers at City Hall. They elected Randy Helms as Council President and Lynette Crow-Iverson as President Pro Tem.
The Ceremony took place on at 10 a.m. pm the Pioneers Museum South Lawn. It was open to the public and live streamed on the City Council Facebook page. The date and time of the swearing-in is set by City Charter.
No mayoral candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the April 4, 2023 municipal election. City Charter requires a runoff between the two candidates with the most votes. Those candidates are Wayne Williams and Yemi Mobolade. The ballots for the runoff election will be mailed between April 21 and May 1. Ballots must be returned by May 16 at 7 p.m. The new Mayor will be sworn in on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 following the results of the runoff election.
