On July 27, 2025, at approximately 7:18 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was dispatched to a crash that occurred in the area of North Weber Street and East Bijou Street. During the investigation, it was found that a motorcycle turned left from westbound Platte Avenue to head southbound on North Weber Street. After the motorcycle was on Weber Street, the rider lost control, and the motorcycle tipped over. There were no other vehicles involved.
Both the rider and the passenger sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital to be treated. The rider was listed as being in critical condition. The passenger was listed as being in stable condition. Neither individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
On July 28, 2025, CSPD was notified that the driver of the motorcycle succumbed to their injuries while at a local hospital.
On July 29, 2025, the El Paso County Coroners' Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased motorcycle rider and identified him as 60-year-old Richard Mondragon.
This is the 32nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were 32 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs. That means in the past 365 days, there have been 49 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
