On December 29, 2023, at approximately 4:26 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a single motorcycle crash at North Nevada Avenue and East Willamette Avenue. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and transported the single rider to a nearby hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.
Based on witness accounts the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Nevada Avenue at a high rate of speed passing vehicles. The motorcyclist attempted to brake before entering the intersection, lost control, and was ejected. The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet. Based on this information the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
On January 3, 2024, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased motorcyclist and identified him as 40-year-old Alexander King.
This was the 49th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time in 2022, there were 56 traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 47 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
