On July 29, 2025, at approximately 8:10 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Major Crash Team was notified and responded to the intersection for the investigation.
The investigation revealed that the motorcycle rider was southbound on Academy Boulevard at a high rate of speed. A vehicle traveling north on Academy Boulevard turned left onto Pace Drive in front of the motorcycle rider.
On July 31, 2025, CSPD was notified that the rider of the motorcycle succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. On August 1, 2025, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased motorcycle rider and identified him as 26-year-old Matthew Campbell.
This is the 33rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were 32 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs. That means in the past 365 days, there have been 50 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs.
