City Council Leadership strongly reaffirms its support for the State of Israel and the Jewish people. We stand united in condemning the brutal and senseless terrorist attack that occurred this past weekend against peaceful protestors who were praying for the release of Israeli hostages.

We are praying for the eight victims—men and women ranging in age from 52 to 88—who suffered serious burn injuries in this horrific act of hate. These individuals were deliberately targeted and set on fire simply for standing in solidarity with the families of hostages. We are grateful that no lives were lost, and we lift these victims in prayer as they begin the long road to recovery.

This attack could have been prevented. The individual responsible, Mohamad Soliman, was in the United States illegally since August 2022.

Let us be clear: Colorado Springs is not a sanctuary city. We do not and will not shield individuals who are in this country unlawfully or who pose a danger to our residents. We continue to call for the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants who threaten the safety and security of our communities.

Our city remains committed to peace, lawful order, and the protection of innocent life. We will not stand idly by in the face of terrorism or antisemitism. We urge our local and federal partners to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further violence and uphold the rule of law.
