On November 10, 2023, at approximately 2:44 AM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 400 block of North Murray Boulevard for a medical call for service. Initially, officers and medical personnel responded to an unknown medical situation involving an adult male. Upon further examination, after the victim was pronounced deceased, a gunshot wound was discovered. The CSPD Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
During the course of the investigation on November 10, 2023, detectives identified 27-year-old Ontony Hatcher of Colorado Springs as the suspect in the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Mr. Hatcher subsequently turned himself in at the El Paso County Jail on November 11, 2023. Mr. Hatcher’s arrest warrant was for the charges of Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and Aggravated Robbery.
On November 13, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased male, who has been identified as 36-year-old Brandon Kmetetz [pronounced KA-METZ], of West Palm Beach, FL. While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, Mr. Kmetetz’s death is being investigated as a homicide. A photo of Mr. Kmetetz has been provided by his family below.
This is the 28th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 42 homicides investigated.
