The Woodmen Road bridge over North Academy Boulevard and Woodmen Road from East Rockrimmon Boulevard to Olga Wilson Way will have nighttime single-lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting in mid-August.
Businesses will stay open, but drivers are asked to use other routes, if possible, during these hours.
Starting Monday, August 11, construction crews will begin fixing the Woodmen Road bridge over Academy Boulevard, including nearby ramps. This project will take about three months and will include resurfacing the bridge and nearby pavement for a smoother drive.
Crews will also repair worn concrete, refresh pavement markings, and make minor sidewalk and curb repairs.
Starting in September and done at the same time as the bridge work, the City will also repave Woodmen Road from East Rockrimmon Boulevard to Olga Wilson Way using 2C funds. This work will also happen at night, closing one lane at a time. The project should take 3-5 weeks, depending on the weather.
Some follow-up work may happen after this time.
This is the last year of the second 2C Road Improvement Program, which is funded by a 0.57% sales tax approved by voters in 2019. In November 2024, voters approved a third version of 2C at the same tax rate, starting in 2026 and running through 2035. Since 2016, 2C funds have been used solely to fix roads in Colorado Springs. The bridge work uses Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) funds, which is also a voter-approved sales tax. PPRTA is a collaborative effort among six regional governments to improve and maintain roads and support public transit. The sales tax helps keep the region’s roads, bridges, and drainage systems safe and reliable.
