The City of Colorado Springs plans to remove the El Paso Street Bridge over Platte Avenue, starting on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The work means Platte Avenue will close in both directions. The work should finish on Tuesday, Oct. 15, weather dependent.

  • Westbound: Traffic should detour south on Hancock Avenue. Then proceed west on Pikes Peak Avenue and continue north on Wahsatch Avenue. Continue west on Platte.
  • Eastbound: Traffic should detour south on Wahsatch. Turn east on Colorado Avenue, which turns into Pikes Peak. Continue east to Hancock Avenue, turning northbound. Finally, turn east on Platte.

The City will maintain access to homes in the area during the project. The walking path that carries the Shooks Run Trail will remain in place.

The bridge was struck by a vehicle in August 2021, sustaining serious damage and it cannot be repaired. It has been closed to traffic since that incident.
