The City of Colorado Springs plans to start a project this week to adjust the center median lane on Woodmen Road between Campus Drive and Interstate 25.
The project will reconfigure the concrete center median, adjust traffic signal heads and street signage and replace roadway markings. The new configuration will decrease traffic congestion for motorists heading westbound on Woodmen Road as they access southbound Interstate 25. Work will extend the left turn lanes to increase the queuing space by removing one of the two left turn lanes off eastbound Woodmen Road to northbound Campus Drive. The City’s analysis shows a single turn lane at that location is sufficient for traffic demand.
The work is expected to be finished by the end of June. During the project, one lane in each direction on Woodmen Road will close, leaving two through-lanes open in each direction. The work will not impact traffic accessing Interstate 25 in either direction.
The work is being done ahead of the 2C Road Improvement program coming through with repaving later this summer.
People with concerns during the project should reach out to the City Engineering at City.Engineering@coloradosprings.gov or via phone at (719) 385-5918.
