Prescribed Fire Notice:
The Pikes Peak Ranger District is planning a 250-acre prescribed fire near Crystal Reservoir on Pikes Peak. Fire managers have been working with the National Weather Service to evaluate weather conditions and after today’s wind event, conditions look favorable for ignitions tomorrow, May 16. Conditions will be monitored and evaluated continuously until tomorrow morning when a final go or no-go decision will be made.
The public can expect to see smoke along Pikes Peak Toll Road, some areas of Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. The Forest Service is working closely with Colorado Springs Utilities, Pikes Peak - America's Mountain, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and other county partners to plan, coordinate and complete this operation.
The project is located on the North Slope Recreation Area of Pikes Peak and will treat areas between Crystal Reservoir and Pikes Peak Highway. This prescribed fire will help protect the Crystal Reservoir by lessening the impact of high severity wildfire in the vicinity.
