N Chelton Rd. detour. (decorative)

The City of Colorado Springs plans to start work on North Chelton Road, in front of Twain Elementary School near the intersection with Marion Drive, on Monday, July 28.

The school safety project consists of reconfiguring the crosswalk, rebuilding the existing pedestrian signal, and installing bump outs to reduce the length of the pedestrian crossing. The shortened crosswalk will make it safer for pedestrians, especially students walking to and from the school from nearby neighborhoods.

The work involves no road closures and should conclude within two weeks, prior to school starting. Construction will start on the west side of North Chelton Road in the first week before switching to the east side. Travelers will experience lane shifts and some bike lane closures during the short-term project.
