Tejon Street, from Colorado Avenue to Kiowa Street in downtown Colorado Springs, will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Monday, Nov. 17 as the installation of new trees as part of the Tejon Street Revitalization Project takes place.

Sidewalks and dining patios will remain open during construction. The planned schedule for closures is:

  • Block 1: Northbound and southbound Tejon Street from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue will close to vehicular traffic for up to two weeks starting Nov. 17. When the trees are installed, this block will reopen to vehicles, including diagonal parking.
  • Block 2: Northbound and southbound Tejon Street from Pikes Peak Avenue to Kiowa Street will likely receive its trees starting as soon as Dec. 1. More information will be available soon about reopening of Block 2 to vehicular traffic.

Parking will be available on nearby side streets and at the three City parking garages. Businesses in Blocks 1 and 2 have free parking vouchers to share with customers. The vouchers are worth two hours of free parking in the three City garages.

Eastbound and westbound Pikes Peak Avenue at Tejon will also be closed intermittently as work wraps at “Busy Corner.” One direction or the other will remain open; motorists should watch for electronic and other directional signage for guidance.

As these phases of construction near completion, Tejon Street hosted the “In their Honor Veterans Day Parade” on Nov. 8 and will welcome the Festival of Lights Parade on Dec. 6.

The Tejon Street Revitalization Project, between Colorado and Pikes Peak Avenue, expands outdoor dining areas and sidewalks with the goal of increasing public safety, pedestrian accessibility and business activity.
